The Maccabees - Latchmere

Latchmere by The Maccabees

4...according to our on Wed 22 Nov, 2006.

The Maccabees from sunny Brighton have a single out on the normally tedious Fierce Panda. 'Latchmere' is a frisky blast of rather plagiaristic Steve Lamacq sponsored indie. A drop of Futureheads in there for definite with a generous soupcon of every other modern day energetic bunch of guitar wielding hopefuls. It's got the whoo-hoo adlibs in the chorus, buzzsaw guitar, twin pronged colliding vocal harmonies. Every page of the modern indie pop tune manual is ripped from it's moorings & pored over in the toilet. What sets this tune apart is that a/ the drumming is superb & really carries across the song's sheer exuberance & b/ It's about a leisure centre which surely wins them kudos. The B-sides sound like every other band at the moment, predictably, but they're a significant cut above the mountains of desperate dross posing around at the moment. It's all about the energy here!. 7"/CDs & presumably ltd as feck
