X Wants The Meat by Smokers Die Younger

Another hugely enjoyable CD is by Sheffield's Smokers Die Younger who've been working on their remarkably unhinged debut album, 'X Wants The Meat' for about 16 years or something. They've got a drummer called Trout who has played with, amongst others, Coping Saw, AC Temple (ancient Sheffield noise crew) Bear & Leeds' Lazerboy. All proud underachieving bands with great songs & mad ideas. This bunch of hugely eclectic tunes remind me of a cross between Teardrop Explodes, Swirlies, Magazine, Pavement, Help She Can't Swim, Lucky Luke, Wire, early New Order, & just about every great yank indie / UK new wave record I own falling pissed into a big bucket of South Yorkshire slurry on acid. Overall, a big bag of angular spanners & quirked out fun with nary a flying fig for what's currently rocking der kids' worlds. CD only on Detail/Thee SPC. Support this odd bunch!
