The Playwrights have been around a while & appear to be of that ilk of melodic, disciplined English groups with interesting off-kilter song arrangements, that kinda sneering dedication to producing tight, melodic alternative indie rock. On this album, 'English Self Storage', I can hear The Wolfhounds, Shudder To Think, possibly a snatch of Futureheads & the kind of post hardcore twist & turn thrill that you get from some of the latter day Dischord roster. Except with a defined Anglo flavour. Deffo an accomplished & impassioned bunch of lads with freewheeling, head spinning anthems. Give 'em a try.
