 This record left our Clint feeling angry.
What a shame what a terrible.........flippin' shame. The Stands emerged with
a cracking debut single last year which made me wonder if there ever really
could be a British beat combo as good as The La's. Unfortunately nothing that
followed was quite as good and their nadir came to me whilst watching them live
executing a 20 minute guitar freakout in front of bored onlookers in the drizzle
at a festival in Manchester last year. But they've put all that behind them with
a new single that unfortunately ignores the jangly pop licks and concentrates on
ham fisted rock cliche's. I once had an argument at a gig with the singer out of
The High for a similar misdemeanour. I felt terrible afterwards as I really
shouldn't have brought it up in front of everyone during their set. But I was
young and an idiot. It is true, though, all bands go towards rock in the end and
leave the subtleties behind. This sounds like a cross between late period
Beatles and the Rolling Stones. Both bands were in their pomp over 35 years ago.
Its 2005 now.
