The Bitter Springs - That Sentimental Slush

That Sentimental Slush by The Bitter Springs

Thought I'd review the Bitter Springs CD for the laugh. It has a kind of country-ish gait to the first track & some chirpy harmonies you can wiggle yer bum to. The second track sounds like an old New Zealand band horribly murdering the Tindersticks violin player. Then more sweet country tinged snog-yer-lass type gear. It all seems to spill with uncomplicated & charming songs with that heartwarming British underachiever status in evidence. The lyrics have a totally UK vibe to them, spilling with the kind of crooked cynicism & cheerful hopelessness that only an unfashionable band from this sceptred isle could dream up. Lovely to hear the phrase "barrel of shit" in a song. Give them a chance. They're better than Harrisons, that's for sure.

The Bitter Springs are without doubt the finest band operating under the radar that this country has produced , this ones well worth the wait if you like biting satire and great lyrics then Simon Rivers is yer man, Englands greatest Lyricist.

By day a bunch of Posties from Hampton they come together as the Bitter Springs for Gigs and Recordings.

I suppose if you had to catagorise them then you would be in trouble ..with hints of Punk,Folk, country and rock they are in a league of their own , how they are not national treasures is beyond me ,I'll take one Simon Rivers tune over a barrellfull of Morrissey's any day.

This Cd is 74 minutes of pure class .
