Mount Eerie - Eleven Old Songs

Eleven Old Songs by Mount Eerie

4...according to our on Mon 27 Nov, 2006.

Next -old Phil Elverum with his Mount Eerie project. This is a new LP called 'Old Songs'. Its LP only but you get a free CD with it. I have to  admit that the packaging is beautiful with a book of photo's and a tiny little lyric booklet. Not quite as much effort has been put into the music. Almost every single track utilises the synth and drum machine sound that Double used for 'Captain of my Heart'. The success of this set up depends on whether the songs are any good or not  - the failure rate wavers at about 50% - but the album as a whole sounds very samey. As with all Microphones/ Mount Eerie stuff there's moments where it all comes together and it becomes rather spellbinding - Elverum's voice has that Will Oldham thing going on with hints of Mark Mulcahy (whadya mean who?)  and one track in particular uses a wierd chant thing that sounds like the stuff on his madcap Microphones masterpiece 'Mount Eeerie'.

MT. EERIE - "Eleven Old Songs of..." LP + CD "Eleven Old Songs of Mt. Eerie" comes with a white LP, a CD version, and 2 booklets with photos and lyrics
