New CD by Avia Gardner that initially comes across like early-mid His Name is Alive with processed loops and ethereal female vocals. Musically there's lots of use of that loveliest of things - the violin/cello loop - which at times recalls Phillip Glass or Tony Conrad. this CD would fit right into this musical movement of traditional (if off-centre) singer songwriter twisted and chopped up with electronic effects - the kind of thing Bjork started. This is one of the best CD's of the genre I've heard so far and brings to mind other movers and shakers such as Empress, Mum, Psapp, Hanne Hukkleberg, Marie and the Atom, Kate Bush & Vashti Bunyan. I hope I have you somewhere near the right ballpark. The album also features guest spots from people you may have heard of such as Vitamins for You and Mitchell Akiyama.
