Fires In Distant Buildings

This record left our Clint feeling happy.
Don't quite know what to make of Gravenhurst. I thought nothing of that first LP but within a few months was totally obsessed about the follow up 6 track EP thingy with the ace Husker Du song. There's a new LP/CD out this week and its a funny old bugger. The first track sounds alarmingly like Slint with dark brooding vocals. Its really atmospheric but a bit twiddly and gothy in places. Next comes the upbeat Strokes-a-like single 'The Velvet Cell' so good they've put it on the album twice which of course is entirely pointless (it returns as a 'reprise'). The third track is like Nick Drake gone electric......and on it goes. There's some really good songs on here (in a much more electric vein than the earlier records) but it does have the feel of a good EP that has been fleshed out to album length. On Warp.
