Dawn Smithson now. Who she? Lady on Kranky that's who! Used to play bass in cult spacerock act Jessamine. This 9 track album, 'Safer Here' spills with the dark tenderness & hypnotic gothic folk that frowning chanteuse's Nina Nastasia & Sheryl Crow are famed for. Whaaaaaaat? Oh that's Shannon Wright I meant (titter!) So just a captivating & pure voice, a tad on the yearning side, like all the great "birds in rock" (tm), beautifully picked guitars & understated synth washes & the occasional dabble with accordion. The production on the vocals alone sucks me right in. Sounds absolutely bloody smashing on first listen, so make this yer miserablist purchase of the week you set of grouchy slimeballs! If you don't trust me then Clint found himself rather spellbound by it too.
