“there are only two kinds of music: the one that makes you want to jump up and pour beer into your hair and the other one that just makes you want to slack on a couch!”
that’s what henry ok aka zimmer stated in 1999. at that time henry (aka she-dentist back then) created gloomy soundscapes only out of samples, which just draged you in the afore-said couch. one can’t exactly tell, which of both types, the music he makes today, belongs to. nevertheless he manages damn good not to sit between certain chairs. on one side henry ok aka zimmer pushes us towards the slacker-couch with early-90s-retro-spheres and basses of wonderful longing analog warmth. also the stoic monotonous, minimal but nevertheless straight melodies let us dream for a while. but with his breakbeats and vocals between speaking and singing he pushes us forward in an unique urbanity and hands us the beer which we willing to pour into our hair, in the glow of some orange big city lights. henry ok's lyrics spread a basic longing inspired by youth in the 90s and growing up nightactively. but one should not get this wrong. it isn't a retrospective thing...listen!
on 2 tracks henry ok gets supported by female rapper doris prlic aka revolver dog from linz, austria. this collarboration was already presented in september 2004 at ars electronica, linz. doris also did the videos for 'survival of...' and 'horrorfication' which can be found as multimedia add-on.
