Newcastle hasn't exactly been a raging hotbed of aspiring talent & musical innovation over the years. Well, probably on a par with Bradford (my home town...) but all that seems set to change with Warp indie poster boys Maximo Shark delivering their 3rd single proper, the re-released 'Graffiti' (it was their very first self released single apparently that probably fetches more on e-bay than Princess Diana's pubic hair) Now I've got a problem with this band, that being every single they release sinks it's melodic claws so deep into my consciousness that I cannot think straight for weeks. 'Apply Some Pressure' IS one of the greatest indie guitar anthems ever written & if anyone dares to disagree with me then I will come round your house & burp very loudly in yer face. This is just as addictive, a swirling burst of euphoric sound that stirs the soul with soaring lyrics, choppy guitar, urgent drums & enough heart stopping adrenaline to change your life. There's oodles of britpop savvy, angular post punk fury & ample classic C86 romanticism - "I'll do graffiti if you sing to me in French" (Ahhh!) to sink a ship of cynical journos here. Roll on that album. It's gonna do a Franz I tell thee. Warp do the do with one of those multi format scams to get all the trax, the 7" is limited to 1 per person & CD 2 is limited so be quick!1 Graffiti (Original Demo Version) (3:11)
2 Stray Talk (2:47)
3 Apply Some Pressure (Original Demo Version) (3:27)
