Drinking Songs by Matt Elliott

Matt Elliott likes a drink. I've been informed of this by Leeds indie funsters Hood who are old mates of his & I've heard a couple of really amusing stories I can tell yer. He likes a drop of the demon booze so much in fact he's entitled his latest beautifully packaged CD 'Drinking Songs'. Think this is one for all you mournful absinthe heads ya know. Sorrowful strings, sad piano and understated guitar kick off proceedings, It gets slightly jauntier albeit more woozy & sinister as it progresses with hazy singalongs & accordian joining the not-so-merry soiree. I reckon this is the best thing he's done in fact. So much so that I'm gonna have one. Try & stop me ya bastards. I'll have the lot of yer. Yer me besht mates all of youze. Honesht.

Matt Elliott has rather an atypical course... He used to work under the pseudo third eye foundation - emblematic figure of the English electronic scene recognized for his atypical electro tinted by drum' N bass. Since his first albums: “the mess we made” (domino records) and “drinking songs” (Ici d’ailleurs…), Matt Elliott turns to compositions much more folk, forsaking the laptop and the machines - which go until disappearing on “failing songs”, to return to more traditional instruments (guitar, piano, violin...).
