The new Smog LP (Rain On Lens) is in and I've only heard the 1st few tracks but this is shaping up to one I like. The 2nd track sounds like Captain Beefheart/ Birthday Party. That was the stand out track out of the few I heard. Unlike most Smog LP's I shall be giving this some further attention.Rain On Lens has a similar feel to y2k’s Dongs Of Sevotion. It pushes against the fully orchestrated production he enjoyed with Jim O’Rourke on 1997’s Red Apple Falls and 98’s Knock Knock, but is sharper and more focussed than his earlier records, leaving us with a maturer sounding (Smog); wisdom a-plenty.
