First time collaborators, Sean Reveron and Dann Gallucci, cross post-punk, hip-hop, pop, and dub by way of large lyrics, tweaked bleeps, live drums and electric guitar. Having achieved reps in the underground for previous bands, Dan Gallucci (Modest Mouse, Murder City Devils) and Sean Reveron (Free Association, Exodus 77, The Beta Band), have been in and around the independent scene for a while.
A Gun Called Tension is a multi-dimensional piece where voice and beat placement interconnect like a bullet and its target. Rowdy shouts sway into mantra-like melodies and bassy hums while tricked out keyboards, clean scratches and speedy boom-claps morph tempos from up high to down low.
Their debut album delivers an arsenal of style by overlapping lyrical prowess with versatile effects of instrumentation. Ex-Murder City Devils members collaborate on a head first rock number; Pretty Girls Make Graves front woman, Andrea Zollo, shares the mic on a minimal pop ballad; and Hip Hop pals Roots Manuva and Airborn Audio provide menacing rhythms on a couple of tracks to boot.
Tension’s calling it out as they see it, from bullshit to terror to the president’s deception, audibly shaking up the ground we walk and veering us toward a more adept interpretation.
