First up, new on Sub Pop-a brilliant album by Jennifer Gentle. 'Jennifer Gentle is not a girl, it's a band' it says on the sleeve. I KNOW,  I KNOW. Christ almighty. Anyway there my annoyance with this record ends as when you slip the CD in the machine, suddenly you are transported to a land full of pixies where Syd Barrett rules the earth. You would think that this music was made by some eccentric Englishman during an acid and buttered scones tea party. Instead it's made by two gangling Italians. The first track is my favourite song not on Syd Barrett's 'The Madcap Laugh's'. The melodies on this record are those great twisting 60's type things that the Elephant 6 collective tried to do a few years ago. There's also loads of drifting psychedelic folk type affairs with chipper plucked acoustic guitars. Also reminiscent of King Missile, Small Faces and Nick Nicely.
