The much hyped LCD Soundsystem bring us their debut CD part of the DFA Collective who specialise in producing dance music for people who don't like dance music. At times it has all the energy and excitement of a dead slug. One or two tracks rise above the mire but mainly its a boy in his bedroom wishing he was Liquid Liquid/Mark E Smith/Talking Heads/The Beatles. The opener 'Daft Punk is playing in my House' is over long, repetitive and annoying but the album picks up after that for awhile - tunes that attain a decent groove with lots of New Yoik style squeaks and noises. there's a kind of psychedelic thing half way through that proves that they can do the sub Beatles/ELO/Tears for Fears thing with some aplomb but won't get the kids on the dancefloor. A mixed bag certainly but the CD does come with a bonus CD featuring the 'classic' "Losing My Edge" and 6 more non-album tracks that have mostly already been out on vinyl.Be the first to review this record.
