Bright Eyes
I'm Wide Awake It's Morning

This record left our Clint feeling unmoved.
One of the main drawbacks of this job is that every couple of years or so I have to write about a record by Bright Eyes, for the only reason that out of the 3 Norman Records staff, I will be the one who is the least rude. Today I have to write about two new Bright Eyes albums. It must be my lucky fucking day. First up is 'I'm wide awake it's morning' . Mr Oberst desperately wishes he was either Simon Joyner or Daniel Johnston. He is neither. Instead he collaborates with Emmylou Harris. That's all you need to know about this record. The next one is called 'Digital Ash in a Digital Urn' and differs from the other album in that it has a more 'electronic' production. It has a more edgy feel to it and Oberst's voice is double/triple tracked so it sounds a bit more interesting. If I had to buy one of these albums it would be this one. In fact on first listen I kinda quite like it. I better go for a lie down. We have these on CD and vinyl.
