Purists may scoff at retrospectives, but as an introduction to The Brian Jonestown Massacre this does the job handsomely. Yeah, listening to the individual albums is a richer experience overall. But if this collection had been produced as an album in the proper sense - i.e. not a retrospective - then it would be the greatest fookin' album ever. Because any record with 'Who?', 'If Love Is The Drug', 'Prozac Vs. Heroin', 'Anenome', 'Straight Up And Down', 'Evergreen', That Girl Suicide', 'Hide And Seek', 'Vacuum Boots', 'Servo', and 'Nevertheless' - and that's really just for starters - would have no equal.
