A double CD compilation by Marina Records. The NME last week tried to have you believe that this is Franz Ferdinand's favourite label. I sincerely hope not. Its the kind of label that means well but has never really got over the Beach Boys splitting up or whatever. So there's some decent-ish stuff on here - Josef K, Tahiti 80, Eric Matthews, Gazelle, Adventures in Stereo, Van Dyke Parks, Shack, Edwyn Collins but also a whole pile of average nothingness that resembles Sade (The Kingfishers) or 70's ballads (April Showers). These are people who think Adrian Gurvitz was a genius. A lot of the tracks have that trying-to-be-the-Beach-Boys-on-a-budget-but-failing-hopelessly feel. Ok I'm being harsh - its a big fat bundle of indie pop but trying to sell it off the back of Franz Ferdinand is slightly misleading. Don't be fooled kids - just go out and buy Josef K's back catalogue instead.Be the first to review this record. Best reviewer each month gets £10 off their next order!
