The Golden Virgins - Songs of Praise

Songs of Praise by The Golden Virgins

4...according to our on Wed 06 Dec, 2006.

So following on from last week's buzz creating double pack 7", we have the rather super debut album by The Golden Virgins. They're really obsessed with booze are this Sunderland lot. Considering all there is to do in the godforsaken shithole is get pissed then I'm not at all surprised. All red brick & barbed wire is the place. (this is the opinion of Brian who's been there and his views and opinions aren't shared by the corporation that is Norman Records. phil x)  How they manage to be inspired enough to make such a good record mystifies me! Hard to pin down their sound too. Sort of trad Peel fodder indie, kinda timeless with a real passion in parts. A bit country-ish in places, Jack/Tindersticks-ey in others. Also pretty rockin' to boot. Redemption songs, drinkin songs, great songs. Better than their buddies by a mile, the awful Futureheads. On Rex/XL
