It's an odd one this. A review for a best-of that's been out before and certainly wasn't the original career round-up (that was '97's Death to the Pixies) The reason they're doing this (4AD), other than blatantly dumping another cash-in on our collective lap, is they feel there hasn't been a well sequenced, chronologically accurate primer available on vinyl before. Well suck my titties if this isn't a dream set baby! Look at that tracklisting! Yum! Burnt orange double vinyl too! Yes please guys! What more is to say? Along with Nirvana, Slint, Pavement and a smattering of other U.S. underground heroes, Pixies are one of the main reason most of us are involved in the independent music scene. Everything has been written about them already, they are true legends - a fat man screams whilst a wickedly powerful, aggressive & tender band thud along like a deranged romantic bull, whipping your mind into a wild frenzy. If you have a sliver of space in your record collection but already have all their records, surely you can fit one more tiny little morsel in there. Oh go on, go on... Just one more slender, noisy Boston biscuit? Quiet LOUD quiet indeed. I'm having one of these, and so should you!!
