New CD on Monotreme by Picastro. This is very nice downbeat melancholic post rock that reminds me of Rex and Dirty Three. The singer sounds like a really down in the dumps Kim Gordon. This is really good stuff. There's even a bit of Movietone in there but a more taut and angular version. Red Your Blues is CD onlyPicastro (from , canada) have received much praise for their broodingly beautiful, melancholic sound scapes, in which cello alternates with frontwoman liz hysen's submerged, murmured vocals. picastro’s string-laden dynamics share a kinship with the music of fellow canadians godspeed you! black emperor, as well as the dirty three and rachels. the band have played shows with them both aswell as smog, elliot smith and cat power. you may already be familiar with their music as a reack is used in the hit kiefer sutherland tv drama ‘24’.
