Much more lively is an old album from Salvatore reissued on Rocket Racer. I'm quite impressed by this. It has that Neu beat on most of the songs and some good melodies and weird things happening. Its mostly instrumental and I will now promptly compare it to the following bands: Yo La Tengo, American Analog Set, Stereolab, Mercury Program and Tristeza. It has nice artwork and has four additional mixes including one by Pall Jenkins (Black Heart Procession).Rocket Racer returns after a longer than normal hiatus to bring forth this re-release of Norway's instrumental groove specialist's 3rd full length album. “Discovering the band while traveling Scandinavia, we felt that Fresh was a fantastic album that was in need of better attention in the states and elsewhere” "RR
Not too far fetched from bands they have toured with like Mogwai, G.Y.B.E! and
To Rococo Rot. Salvatore's group of 6 plus musicians work collectively to tweak things out further. Blending the love of the Can / Neu! Kraut groove and adding subtle electronics and ethnic instruments to the mix. Having done a film soundtrack album that caught the attention of Tortoise's John McEntire, the group hailing from Oslo, Norway was invited all the way to his Soma studio in Chicago to record their just released full length “Tempo”. With expected success in the studio with McEntire, Salvatore plan to travel to Chicago early 2004 to record once again.
Recorded in Morocco and released on their own label in late 2001, the Fresh re-issue by Rocket Racer adds some additional merits to the classic release including lush digipak packaging with modified art and four bonus remixes by Pall Jenkins of The Black Heart Procession, the first official release by Rocket Racer label head Billy Sprague's Galena project and two of Norway's own special surprises. Seems as Norway has demanded the worlds' ears and respect with wonderful releases on the Smalltown Supersound label like Jaga Jazzist, Jazzkammer, Sir Duperman and more, It's no wonder Salvatore are currently enjoying the attention they so justly deserve. Working on their fifth full-length plus a remix album and currently ping-ponging across Europe with artists Acid Mothers Temple and Can's Damo Suzuki.
