First up we have the long awaited new album from The Rapture. It kicks off with the magnificent 'Olio' - The Cure with micro-house beats. Never has anyone sung more like Robert Smith than on this song. The rest of the album is a varied affair drifting between wild angular left-field guitar rock with mental drumming to some ropey efforts -'Open Up Your Heart' and 'I Need Your Love' are cringeworthy. So its a mixed bag. When its good its very very good and when its bad...well you get the picture. For the uninitiated the best bits recall Gang of Four meets Public Image Limited meets Liquid Liquid meets The Cure. Echoes is on CD and LPBe the first to review this record.
