Sometimes we're at the mercy of our distributors. I was convinced The Postal Service recent album was already out but Pip kept saying "No, no no our distributor would surely tell us if it was out - don't worry your pretty little head about things like that". Anyway its been out for two months and today we recieve our copies. So, as you'll know by now its a collaboration between the Dntel fella and the singer from the marvellous Death Cab For Cutie. Although I'm a fan of both bands I'm finding this difficult to judge on first listen. It is a bit like a cheesy electro-pop version of Death Cab For Cutie - plenty tuneful but maybe lacks depth and emotion. Maybe would appeal more to fans of Figurine. Hmmm... I dunno give me a couple of months before I Give Up on it.... gerrit?...according to Jackamo.
Death Cab for Cutie front Ben Gibbard went in a new direction with this side project. The album is well produced and throughly addictive ,and as with Death Cab, Give Up's musical tone, lyrics and subtle individuality are never wanting. With an average score of 80% Give Up is proven as a must listen record for 2003.
