Rating: happy This record left our Clint feeling happy.

Ballboy are one of those bands that make me despair. They make (from what I've heard) bad music but sell lots of records and get played on John Peel all the time. Having had that big strop (sorry) I have to admit this new CD single is the best thing I've heard by them. Lovely string melody like the Delgados with moody blokes spoken word thing over the top. Like a less scary Arab Strap. Surprise of the week! B-side is rubbish though. A Europewide Search For Love is CD only

About the humble CD single:

Another digital format and even though they can hold 80 minutes of information (like a CD album would) record companies only fill up a small portion of the disc. Sometimes only 1 or 2 tracks on there totalling 5 minutes or so. It's like going to a restaurant and getting a plate of food with 2 green beans on and wondering where the rest of your meal is. Sometimes they're lovingly packaged though and when the music is good then you're into a winner. Also you get videos on there sometimes which you can watch on your computer. That is excellent.
