Remember Laika? I recall being exited when they emerged, blinking and shivering from the ashes of the mighty Moonshake a decade ago yet i've been slightly underwhelmed by the majority of their subsequent releases. They have an anthology called 'Lost In Space' out this week on the flagging Too Pure (McLusky??!! Hardly the stuff of legend!) CD only and it's a nicely put together double incorporating rare remixes and Peel session tracks on the 2nd disc. Limited I imagine too. If you've never heard 'em they sound like a rythmic, evocative pre trip/post/hop/rock hybrid. Lots of the tunes are ambient poppy things with breathy (mostly) female vocals. If you ever cocked an ear towards the more gentle, dubby moments of Moonshake or like The Beloved and SeeFeel, then this is your coffee table CD for the next six months!
