Also on Domino with a beard on the cover come Loose Fur. This features Jim O'Rourke and Jeff Tweedy (Wilco). Its a quite lovely record which is comparable to but far outshines Jim O'Rourkes recent solo stuff being somehow less obviously......clever. Features lots of lovely picked acoustic guitar and banjo with O'Rourkes idiosyncratic arrangement touch. Reminds me very much of a record by Very Secretary which came out to complete public indifference a few years back. Bit of Sea and Cake in there aswell.A meeting of Jim O'Rourke and Jeff Tweedy & Glenn Kotche (from Wilco) led to Loose Fur, a dynamic showcase for three of the Chicago under(over)grounds' brightest talents.
Whilst mixing Wilco's excellent Yankee Hotel Foxtrot album a year ago, Jim O'Rourke invited Jeff Tweedy and Glenn Kotche to record some parts on his next solo album Insignificance. The three players connected and resolved to record an album together under the moniker Loose Fur. Finally we have the results here for you!
It's a testament to the power of their instrumental prowess that you can recognise each man's contribution to this record. Jeff Tweedy and Jim O'Rourke being the vocalists on their own tracks, their playing is also as precise and soulful as you'd expect - Glenn Kotche is no slouch either, a multi-instrumentalist with solo records under his belt.
