Herbert - Addiction

Addiction by Herbert

Quite a few nodding heads, a smile on nearly every face and always the curious questions about his tracks...
The music from Matthew Herbert always proves to deliver the same phenomena to its listeners. His tracks have this deepness combined with a groove that works like a magnet on every dancefloor. Still he refuses to use conventional samples and by using everyday sounds as a new source, his style has made him a true 'product of his environment'. Of course other producers are keen to deliver their interpretation of Herberts tunes, notably heard on the two albums 'Around The House' (!K7105CD) and 'Bodily Functions' (!K71097CD).
The first mix is a rework of the album track 'Addiction' and Matthew Herbert was able to persuade Perry Farrell (of Jane's Addiction fame) to appear as  guest-vocalist.
The jamming piano on the next track 'I´ll Do It' clearly displays how Herbert is able to generate a cool and funky housetrack and again the voice of Dani Siciliano delivers a warm greeting to your soul.
If the soundtrack of 'Casablanca' is ever to be re-recorded the first track on the b-side should work as a perfect acoustic intermezzo. If you play 'Suddenly - PPP - Phil's Piano Piece', time and space are frozen and the piano sounds like it is the center of the universe, played by Phil Parnell.
Very similar to Jimi Tenor during his early years the Japanese keyboard player Emerson Kitamura (known for his album 'California Soul') delivers a remix which shatters its funk like a bullet-time-sequence from a movie. The sound of the snare straight out of a cheap drummachine works like a constant pulse and at the end of the record you shouldn´t wonder why the temperature in your room is way over 40 degrees...
