Formed in South London in 1999 by Gaverick de Vis (guitar/vocals) and Manu Ros (drums/bass), and now augmented by Justin Stone as full-time bass player, Giddy Motors set out to combine the jazz influence of Miles Davis and Christian Vander with angular US punk. Displaying affinities with the likes of ‘Clear Spot’ era Captain Beefheart and The Jesus Lizard, Giddy Motors defy easy categorisation, reconstructing influences in a context of their own. These are intense, wayward, strangely anglicised songs set to tight, chaotic chord progressions and acrobatic percussion.
The fourth release in FatCat’s 7” series, these three tracks serve well as an introduction to their taut, idiosyncratic compositions. ‘Whirled By Curses’, is taken from the band’s forthcoming debut LP ‘Make It Pop’, recorded at Electrical Audio by Steve Albini late last year, whilst ‘Sap Heater’ and ‘Baddie Who?’ were recorded by Manu Ros, and are exclusive to the single. A visceral, impacting live outfit, Giddy Motors can be seen playing live supporting Oxes at London’s The Garage, Highbury Corner on 6th June. More UK and European shows will ensue, with the album tentatively scheduled for release on 26th August 2002.
