Our single of the week (14th September 2012)
...according to our Brian on Wed 12 Sep, 2012.
Intriguing collaboration here between these two Hare Krishna art-skool babes and sleepy chong-meister dub-face Cameroon Stallone (sic).
'Irene' was recorded during the 2011 hurricane of the same name that decimated parts of the East Coast of the US. With Irene being classed a tropical cyclone, you couldn't get more appropriate musicians to document this destructive natural phenomena. This is an absorbing, heady trip and due to its reasonably lo-fi nature is possibly best experienced LOUD and on headphones for maximum trip-out value.
It's 20 minutes long, deliciously murky, humidly languid, very psychedelic, sensually hypnotic and apparently constructed around synthesizer, harmonium and djembe. It sounds like there could (or should) be some melting wah-wah guitar in there, it's hard to tell amongst the fidelity-eschewing, mind-altering, tribal squall…
I'm actually itching to turn this right up and blast everyone's faces off as I'm starting to feel completely in the zone after around halfway. There's not a great deal else to say apart from that the sleeve photo is a masterpiece and you really should invest as these'll be way gone in no time…
