Mark Eitzel /Sacri Cuori W/Isobel Campbell - Split (7" vinyl)

You know in all the time I’ve been doing this I’ve never really paid much attention to Mark Eitzel. I’ve no idea why so don’t ask. I just haven’t. Too many records and not enough hours in the day! Anyway this is a split single by Mark Eitzel and Sacri Cuori featuring guest vocals from Isobel Campbell, David Hidalgo and Marc Ribot. One of the Mark Eitzel tracks is exclusive to this release as well!

Anyway the 2 Eitzel tracks are lush. It opens with a gorgeous stripped back opener with him singing (he has a good soulful voice) and some simple guitar plucking. It’s a charming tune which just bristles along gently. ‘When You Fly’ is the new track which is a piano laden shuffly drum affair and it’s equally as good. I’ve just spotted this is his 1st 7” single since 1991. Yikes! The flip by Sacri Cuori strats off with a country laden airy sounding track with Ms Campbell singing away in a delightful breathy fashion. And before you know it the EP ends with a swampy kitsch instrumental which is light, breezey and bizarrely chirpy. I wasn’t expecting that, a surprisingly decent EP!
