Our single of the week (5th October 2012)
...according to our Ant on Fri 05 Oct, 2012.
The icing on the Ike Yard and Monoton LP reissue cake comes in the form of this superb remix 12” courtesy of Desire Records and Blackest Ever Black with none other than Regis and Monoton at the controls. Just 350 copies of this one so I don’t expect it will hang around for too long.
Karl O’Connor clearly has masses of adoration for the source material, treating it with the utmost care and respect. He turns in a mighty fine remix of ‘Loss’ focusing on the edgy paranoid elements of the original, chopping up the vocals into stuttering phrases and keeping the drums clean. It’s quite an achievement in the sense it stays true to the original yet certainly has some of that trademark Regis flavour without resorting to completely dissecting it into a big room techno pounder. There is an eerie, unsettling almost suffocating quality that’s been further enhanced in the reworking process. A surefire winner of a track.
This 12” arrives the very same week as the Monoton LP repress. Our initial copies of the reissue sold out in a day, the repress looks like it’s flying out at a similar pace. So if you’re a Monoton worshipper then you need to get on the case with their remix of ‘NCR’. Again this retains many of the key elements but this version reassembles them into a strange technoid brew that shifts, twists and turns all over the place.
