Eric Loveland Heath of Epic45 infamy is back with a very limited 3” CDr this week, ‘A Song for the Village of New Invention’, which is a great little piece of shimmering pastoral psych-pop with shuffling percussion and looped birdsong and warm droney accordion melodies, later met by chanty vocals only to drop back down to just the accordion for a calming finish.
Then we’ve got a new song ‘Great Tooth Dragon’, with gently twinkling guitars and cyclical vocal melodies courtesy of Xenia Randle (Cat Green Bike), later met by a bedroom hip-hop beat and warm drones for a chiming and affecting bit of sunset melancholy pop which to me sounds like These United States would have if they were totally obsessed with Enya. Quite beautiful.
Finally there’s a Toy Library remix of the title track, with gently clanking field recordings in the fore over distant, shimmering melodic loops and a breathy static pulse for a drifty late-night techno feel which has a slightly euphoric break towards the end building to some crunchy beatwork. It’s worthy and very listenable but quite lengthy and the two heartstring-tugging originals are floating my boat more today. Oh, and there’s a laminated daisy in the sleeve with it too(!). Quality single.
