Now I loved these guys’ last album. It was a heady blend of psych rock and Beatles style pop...sounds bizarre but it worked brilliantly and they know how to get a song together. Bless. Elephant is the first physically released track from their forthcoming ‘Lonerism’ album which is due in October.
It’s a kick-ass tune with Quo-like fuzzy guitar riffs, huge stadium sized synths and a deliciously throbby bass. This is totally wiping the cobwebs away! They still have the Beatles-esque vocals and melodies in there and it still works. I really shouldn’t like this band but I can’t help myself as they’re so dangerously good at what they do it hurts. There’s remixes by Canyons and Todd Rundgren (which explains a lot) which wraps it all up nicely. The Rundgren mix is total prog and makes it sound a bit like Dukes Of Stratosphear being bummed by the KLF/The Timelords (I think...).
