Josephine Foster - Blood Rushing (Vinyl LP, CD)

I used to be obsessed about Josephine Foster. So much so that when it came to naming my daughter we settled on Josephine (guess whose idea that was!). There’s something about her music that just gets me every time I hear her. Even the difficult Wolf In Sheeps Clothing album (all sung in German) does it for me.

So I’m always interested in her output. ‘Blood Rushing’ is considerably more fleshed out than her previous releases as it features Victor (hubby) Herrero, Paz (The Entrance Band) Lenchantin, Heather (A Hawk and a Hacksaw) Trost and Ben (Fly Golden Eagle) Trimble. All of these musicians bring their rich musical heritage to the album. Josephine’s voice is remarkably strong as ever ands it’s a joy to listen to. The songs have an Appalachian feel to ‘em so it’s rooted in Americana but with touches of flamenco (courtesy of hubby). I’m not gonna say this is a pop album cos it ain’t but there’s some extremely accessible songs on here which I can see a lot of people falling for. It’s nice to hear her do something a little different (though she does tend to change on every album) and this one is as close to a pop album as we’ve had so far. Super smashing great!
