As we wait with breath ever more baited for the vinyl version of the ace R. Stevie Moore comp (come on, Tim!), here is a mild diversion from a Winchester based chanteuse in collaboration with the great man himself. It has been said Rose Keeler Schaffeler has written over 200 songs (I sometimes wonder, though whether its better to write one good song rather than hundreds of ok ones), so off she went over to Nashville to record this sweet 7” record. Opener ‘With Me Tonight’ (not the Beach Boys one) is a pleasant slab of Best Coast style summer pop with ear piercingly trebly guitars and sugary female vox. I like the flip ‘Boner Hit’ a bit better, the kind of track that has everything but a memorable hook. Chugging guitars a la Stereolab, a bit of Vivian Girls here, a nod to Heavenly there but the much needed vocal line which would catapult it towards ‘classic’ status duly never arrives. Still, its heartfelt summer guitar pop that its hard not to like.
