That there Barn Owl fellow is back on Thrill Jockey with what I reckon is his fifth album in around three years which ain't bad going at all. This is his first solo record on the label following a couple of Barn Owl records and then solo gear for the likes of Immune, Digitalis, Students Of Decay, Three Lobed, Handmade Birds etc.
As one might expect this stays pretty close to the blueprint of his sound, but that’s in no way a bad thing. He has his style and he’s been developing it to the point where this may well be his most focused record to date. Caminiti is a master of building epic drifting soundscapes that conjure up visuals of windswept arid desert landscapes, vultures and anthraces. The tracks are all expertly crafted, layering warm drones, gentle restrained fuzz and some ultra soothing guitar. I’d say this ain't one just to dip into , rather is best digested from beginning to end. If you were able to acquire some peyote to assist listening then I’m sure this would be a wild shamanic trip. LP comes with digital download too.
