Puffy Areolas - 1982: Dishonorable Discharge (Vinyl LP, CD)

I really like these Puffy Areolas. They’ve got a raw obnoxious loucheness to them which I immediately warmed to so I’m very happy to see a new full-length collection turn up at Norman HQ. So happy that I’m reviewing it even though nobody has put it on the review pile. Take that, world.

They’re making me feel like maybe describing records for a living isn’t so bad after all with another LP of raucous, snotty anthems buried in skewed splatter punk noise. They seem like the natural descendants of bands like the Dazzling Killmen and Naked Raygun and Wrangler Brutes; clever, concise, frantic punk gems with cleverly sloppy delivery for a sprawling suckerpunch of snotty punk and hypno-noise, kind of like the stringy mess of mangled flesh that’d be left if you surgically removed Total Control’s synthisers and stuffed the confrontational clever-clever sass of Gay Beast in the gaping void left behind, or maybe a more unhinged and chaotic Pissed Jeans.
