Olafur Arnalds from Fighting Shit is back with a second record in a row on my review pile, aren’t I a lucky boy. Anyway, this 7” has a couple of pieces he created as part of an interactive project which allows anybody to create their own online version of Teda de Moor’s 1934 ‘Dance On Steps’, which I’m sure you’ll agree is a challenging and even now modern-seeming masterpiece comparable in scope only to the ‘Adele Butter Dance’.
Anyway, on the first side of this you have some beautiful twinkling piano with a some calming drone swells and a soft slow pulse which builds to a smooth, contemplative beat. It’s all rather wistful and cinematic. On the other side there’s a slightly crunchier minimal electronic beat alongside a single note piano pulse and little string swells. Lovely, gentle, relaxing melodies.
