Jonas Reinhardt (a.k.a Jonas Reiner) returns with four fresh, instantly enjoyable Moroder-esque disco cuts for the untouchable (if slightly expensive) NNF offshoot 100% Silk.
Now, I got no problem with disco. They say it killed music back in the ‘70s but I reckon that’s bullshit - and racist bullshit at that. It’s music designed strictly for dancing and there’s absolutely no harm in dancing, innit. Reinhardt keeps the ultra optimistic, retro-futurist dream alive with this collection of tracks that look to the past at a time when the past was looking to the future - a future that was way cooler than the one we live in today. It touches on Krautrock aesthetics, early electronica, Italo-disco, funk, soul and cosmic house, blending it all into one utopian, non-stop club banger. Sure, it’s not the most forward thinking of EPs but it celebrates and contributes to a sound and culture that will always a have a place in my brain space.
Imagine Kraftwerk, John Carpenter and Hipnosis hanging out whilst Jean Michel Jarre and Jan Hammer look on disapprovingly because, for some reason, they’ve not been invited - and you’d be in the appropriate ballpark.
