I had utterly no idea Schematic were still on the go but here they are with this new slab of vinyl that could be described a spliced electro jazz funk fusion.
Imagine Jamiroquai cut up into a billion pieces. I know, it’s a lovely image isn’t it? That’s pretty much musically what is being done here, it has the micro beats and cut and splice techniques so popular amongst electronic sound sorcerers who patrolled the planet in the late ‘90s, people like like Phoenicia, Team Doyobi and the Skam label, it’s micro cut with deepy jazzy harmonic grooves and very tight beats.
It lacks soul, definitely, but that isn’t really the point with releases like this. They seem further and fewer between these days, giving the record an almost retro feel for those who grew up in the early days of laptop electronic music making.
