Nice contemporary classical set here from the late professor Feldman's old collaborators, reconvening 13 years after the great man's death, around the millennium at an anniversary revival of his much-loved NY festival. This is pretty minimal, tentative classical music with an atmospheric chamber feel plus an almost haunted forest avant-folk vibe, possibly due to the teasing peeps and fluttery blasts of cat 'n' mouse flute that you hear dancing, even vying with the cool resonance of vibraphone and stalker film piano plinks. There's also some charming celesta and deeper, larger alto 'n' bass flute action to vary the timbres but overall the loose, playful arrangements are simply awe-inspiring in their sparsity and graceful scope. This beautifully metered alliance creates a disarmingly eerie yet mellow aura that is very easy to get lost in, one disc of this performance document simply isn't enough, both similarly faceted pieces (probably a mighty one edited into neat halves?) clock in at around 45 minutes each and are both sensual, intimate and arresting listens, they do the memory of their old skipper proud.
