I’ve been waiting for this baby for a while now as I loved that last Lee Noble LP which sold out in a flash! There’s even less of this release (only 300) so I don’t reckon this one’s gonna hang around for too long either. If you didn’t get around to hearing his last album then he makes very drifty sounding floaty music with echoey vocals which isn’t too far removed from the likes of Grouper.
From what I can gather Bryan from Ensemble Economique wrote a poem and the 2 artists have recorded a side each with music based on the poem. Lee Noble’s hushed echoey vocals, eerie soundscapes and haunting sounds fill up all of side A quite satisfactorily. Flip the record over to get Ensemble Economique’s take on his own poetry. It starts off quite synthy with oodles of tom tom(y) style drums and it builds until some muted vocals come in before it fades out and then fades back in with a slow wonky sounding ‘80s number with layered vocals, drum machine and piano. It’s incredibly catchy and it ends up being my highlight of the album. Frickin’ marvellous!
