A lovely little 3” CD from Ireland’s fine Rusted Rail imprint. Fitting perfectly with the label’s gently undulating folky releases this features gorgeously glacial acoustic guitars, bowed cymbals and gentle half-whispered vocals, the songs ebbing and flowing reaching pinnacles. The influence of the sea cannot be underestimated, the songs have an obvious nautical theme and the whole rhythm of the thing recalls the undulations of the moving ocean, the waves crashing on things.
The most obvious influence are the gentler moments of The Leisure Society’s still brilliant ‘The Sleeper’ album, Lanterns on the Lake’s North Sea laments or many of the Fence Collective’s gentle evocative songcraft. Simply crafted but beautiful, full of longing and with hints of foggy reverb recalling the haunting folk of Songs of Green Pheasant.
