Well this morning’s working out pretty nicely for me so far. Come to work, sit in a chair and describe some nice relaxing records, all of them good (there’s usually a dud or two in there but not today!). First I had that blissy new Ashlar CD, now this new 12” EP of cosmic synth headnoddery from the Great Pop Supplement. I say EP but it’s nearly half an hour long so you still get a fair bit of listening for your money.
On the first side there’s the title track, which is 13 minutes of slowly shifting modular loops that are totally astral and hypnotic and must have a bit of a twinkly ambient feel to them because Phil thought I was still listening to Ashlar. On the flipside things get a little bit more energetic, with Sonic Boom showing up for bass swells on ‘Closer’ and then pumping techno-ish closer ‘Light Falling’ coming over like a hyperactive Peaking Lights, with disjointed robotic vocals and fast, pulsing beats. Top notch synth fare once again from these chaps.
