Hampshire/Berliner James Welch aka Seams is a brand new artist on Full Time Hobby and also to me as I’ve not heard of him before. New music for old ears...nice! This is a collection of two EPs called Tourist and Sleeper. Tourist is four tracks of summery electronic toytown vibes along the lines of Four Tet and Pantha Du Prince. It’s twinkly whilst retaining full beatyness and remaining fully melodic. Damned there’s some great tunes on there. Nachtmusik is a seven-minute wonder with its pulsing bass, twinkly xylophone stylings and gorgeous melodies. I’m very keen! The Sleeper half of the album is also four tracks but these were recorded at home in Hampshire (instead of Berlin) and apparently they’re more dark. Who’d have thought Hampshire was the home of evil? Well, I wouldn’t describe them as evil but they’re certainly more frenetic and a little more electro-infused with some hints of bass music. There’s less toytown about them and there’s an energy to these tracks which isn’t present on the Sleeper side. Future electronics with summery vibes for ya!
