Lightships - Fear And Doubt EP (10" vinyl)

Aaaahh...I woke up this morning in a tremendous mood. Sun streamed through the curtains, there’s a nice late summer/pre autumn vibe to the chill of the early morning air, even my cat was being nice to me rather than DEMANDING food literally the second my first eye opened. I’m therefore thrilled at the warm summer sounds of this Lightships EP.

Now, you may or may not know that this is the brainchild of one of the Teenage Fanclub fellers doing his solo thing and it’s way similar to his parent band as you may expect but that’s no bad thing. The main tune (which is brand new) is an upbeat chiming delight. It sometimes feels working here that everyone is trying to out-weird each other but you can’t beat the joys of a three minute slab of guitar pop to glide you into another day.

There are three other tunes on here, only one of which, ‘Silver and Gold’, is on the recent album. The best tracks though are the new ones - ‘Cavalcade’ is wonderfully languorous whilst ‘University’ is a silvery, sweet delight with steel guitar and flute adding to the heavenly sunshine. This is a nice record and I’ve thoroughly enjoyed listening to it. Thank You.
