Bit of an icky cover on this one, with some poor soul appearing to have had their head covered in paint and clingfilm and stuff. Ew. Put the needle on the groove and things don’t get much less lurid, with a fluorescent cod-funk guitar line crowding up the audio while some souly falsetto vocals go on over the top. My immediate response was that it sounds like a Jamiroquai song (‘Feels Just Like It Should’? I think that’s what it’s called...), and Business Lady has immediately reached for a Lenny Kravitz comparison. It also has the odd moment where it sounds a bit like the Flaming Lips when they go into their psych-funk mode though, so it’s not all doom and gloom.
Flip it and there’s another wacky bit of in-yer-face psych-soul. It’s becoming increasingly clear that the man’s face covered in brightly coloured paint and clingfilm was simply a metaphor for how this music makes you feel. Gross.
