It’s cosmic synth time. This is one of the newest releases on the newest GPS offshoot Deep Distance, set up for a specialist string of all things cosmic and krauty, housed in embossed single-colour sleeves so you feel like you have to collect them all. It’s already working on me because now these new ones are in I’m feeling even more forlorn about missing the boat on the first batch from the marvellous Kosmonaut.
On this one Kohn has selected his favourite live cuts using the same minimalist improvisational techniques he exploited to good effect on his Random Patterns LP. This means gently shifting throbs and bleeps and arpeggios and simple melodies for an immersive, constantly changing bit of hypnotic, cosmic synth minimalism that’s cleaning my head right out. Absolutely beautiful stuff, superbly recorded considering that it’s all live, and without any disruptive crowd noises, but with music of this nature it’s very hard to say much more about it than that. If you’re into immersive synthetic drones and pulses then you want to pick up one of these babies before they’re all gone, and trust me they will all go.
